I am in heaven! I know it sounds a bit much that I get to luxuriate in heaven on a yacht and now I am basking in the LA life. You would imagine that I would be out star spotting but it hasn't interested me yet. What I have done is joined the exclusive LA Sports Club which is conveniently located very near Rodeo Drive.
The class timetable has about 15 classes per day and there have been some amazing classes such as Jammin Latin and Zumba- a fusion of latin and international music. Non stop, heart pumping hip shaking! I did that this morning and feel so alive, that's the beauty of finding a class that suits you whether its 45 minutes of spinnning, pumping iron, walking, Tai Chi or Salsa dancing. The secret is to find something that you enjoy whatever level you are at.
Having not done salsa for so long, yesterday was my first Zumba class and it just shifted my whole outlook on life- I felt so alive and upbeat and felt I could conquer the world. That same evening I went back and took a Tai Chi class and again it was so uplifting as I felt the Chi circulate my body. God even as I write this my endorphins are lifting me up again!
People get so fixated about having to spend a grueling hour at the gym pacing up and down the treadmill and because they don't enjoy it they can find numerous excuses not to go. The secret is to find something you enjoy that is physical. It could be bellydancing, line dancing, walking, hiking, bike riding, roller blading, anything that gets you moving and that you can enjoy. And even if you can't master the sport or leisure activity the idea is that your brain and body will be challenged and you can continue to improve and enjoy. Ultimately you just want to have fun, let go and release the tension by physical movement. The effects are AMAZING!
This morning I also did Iyengar Yoga after my Jammin' Latin which allowed me to have a wonderful mind body experience stretching parts of my body that had become tight. The one thing I have come to appreciate over the years of exercising is that variety is the key to keep you motivated and allow your body and mind to be exercised. In addition, not only are cardio and weights important but continued stretching and relaxation exercises are fundamental to continued health. BTW Salsa is wonderful for your waist line!
So get out there and find something that you enjoy doing and HAVE fun whilst getting fit at the same time.
