As part of my nutritional programmes, I usually recommend a course of supplements dosed at a therapeutic level for a 3,6 or 12 month duration (depending on the severity of the health concern). Often I get clients coming in for their first consult with carrier bags worth of store bought Vitamin C, multis, chromium and the like. They show resistance to purchasing my supplements when they can see that their store bought supplements are usually half the price. Whilst it is great to see that my clients have realised the importance of supplementation, I often need to explain that these chosen supplements are a waste of money and could well be a risk to their health.
First of all buying supplements without first seeking the advice of a
health professional increases the risk of incorrect dosaging,
overdosing, toxicity or buying a supplement that barely meets the RDA let alone help alleviate your health challenges. Whereas lab based supplements that are bought directly from the practitioner such as myself, albeit more expensive, are guaranteed to replenish the exact vitamin deficiency which saves you time and money in the long run and makes you look good and feel great that is ultimately your goal!
Store Bought versus practitioner bought supplements:
- The store based supplements that you see in your local pharmacy/drug/health food store are the ones you usually see lined up along numerous competitors. In order for these companies to remain competitive, and ultimately sell their goods at a cheap enough price enticing the customer to purchase, they will often compromise the quality of the supplements such as use cheaper synthetic versions, exclude vital components and short change the customer of the 'said' quantity.
- The supplements that come from me are lab based. This means that they are advised based upon the lab test for nutritional deficiencies. The supplements are made from nutritional companies that only sell their products to physicians and health practitioners. These are the highest quality products available. They contain only the purest pharmaceutical grade nutrients and the potency of each product is guaranteed .
Whilst it may seem to save clients money in the short run, the results are not consistent when they use their own store bought supplements. When I advise a therapeutic dosage of a particular nutrient, I can be rest assured that these dosages have been used on previous patients and therefore consistent results can be guaranteed. In addition, as you may or may not know, dosages are not recommended without prior lab based diagnostic testing that indicates your own biochemical vitamin/mineral deficiency.
Therefore, I can rely on the lab based supplements that have been proven clinically effective from naturally orientated doctors and physicians.
So in a nutshell, think about your health for the long term and ask yourself;
Are Your Store Bought Supplements Really Working?
Would You Really Be Seeking Health Advice or Seeing Me If They Were?
Are You Experiencing Optimum Health As A Result of Taking These Supplements?
Lastly, I can't stress the importance of having a diagnostic test indicating your deficiencies before you dabble in healing with nutrition. I would also like to say that I don't advocate a lifelong 'popping pills' attitude. Once a therapeutic programme is complete, I recommend getting your nutrients from the foods you eat, namely Organic, fresh whole foods. However, if you live somewhere where you can't source the 'ideal' food, such as Bahrain, then you need to consider how you are going to keep nutritionally balanced.

Supplements can be a waste of money when they do not work. Be sure the supplements you are taking are of quality and are easily absorbed. There is nothing as nasty as burping-up the taste of vitamins. They may not be digesting properly.
